JEAN DE MARCHI

Passionate about sports Jean was destined for a life of Basketball from a young age. He excelled in one of the most prestigious teams in the Grand-Duke of Luxembourg and made it to the National Level.

Travelling extensively Jean's attention was repeatedly drawn to the ruthless working conditions and lack of fundamental rights throughout the world. Especially in places without access to education, he saw large corporations and multinationals exploit the local people and their land. For this reason Jean devoted himself to a career in Teaching in order to show young people the importance of literacy and make them aware of ecology and our role to protect nature.

When visiting Panama for the first time in 2013 with his wife Magalee, he felt immediately accepted.  Aside from the warmth of the people of Panama, the nation has one of the richest ecosystems on the planet. A dream was born to invest in Panama, and to study the flora and fauna, to better protect the wealth of the Country. Jean developed a friendship of like-mindedness with Nature Lovers, Lazare Roels and Carmen Lawton, who had found a paradise in the province of Chiriqui,  a place protected as a National Marine Park. The dream became the "Punta Ballena Project".

CARMEN LAWTON & LAZARE ROELS

With previous careers in Banking, Security and Industrial Labor Carmen  and Lazare were searching for new ways of life. They both had one goal, to live closer to nature.

Carmen joined Lazare in Bocas Del Toro, where he was resuscitating an abandoned reforestation project into a bustling eco-retreat.  From the ground up and on a shoestring budget, they designed the ultimate Caribbean eco-experience for thousands of nature loving travelers from all over the world.

Locals were employed, guests left raving reviews and the unique beauty of the Island was celebrated, every moment of the day.

As time went by, Carmen and Lazare dreamed of owning their own land, a place to rehabilitate and protect. The location of the Eco-Lodge seemed to tick every box in their vision of perfection, and to match the standards seemed impossible. The search was thorough and filled with great adventures that inspired a new company, Roots Real Estate Panama: Real Estate for Green-Investors, created to fund The Punta Ballena project. More than a year into the property search the two found land for sale on Isla Parida. One step on Punta Ballena and their life's mission was clear.
